Title: CMA Targets UK-based Institutional Investors
KUWAIT CITY, March 18, 2019 - The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) roadshow in UK targeted high-profile UK-based institutional investors, in order to attract more institutional foreign investments, present the latest developments in the Kuwaiti financial markets and to hear their opinions on their investment experience in Kuwait.
The CMA was represented by Mr. Muthanna Al Saleh - Head of Market Sector, Mr. Abdulrahman Al Failakawi, Director of Market Regulation Department, Mr. Khalid Al Khaled - CEO of Boursa Kuwait and Mr. Khaldoun Al Tabtabai - CEO of Kuwait Clearing Company. A total of 10 meetings were held on March 13, 14 and 15. Many topics were covered, in particular those related to the market upgrade on the MSCI index. All reactions and observations were positive, and all institutions commended the efforts exerted by the parties involved in the market development project and praised the Kuwaiti market high standard of professionalism accomplished in a short time.
Among the highlights were the plans of the parties to implement the Central Counterparty (CCP), which provides better risk management in light of the Market Development Plan that will introduce new, more advanced and sophisticated products such as derivatives. The expected mechanism for joining the index in case of upgrade was also discussed.
It is worth noting that the CMA has been conducting such roadshows since 2017 on regular basis. Recently, the CMA has participated in meetings with 10 foreign institutions in Dubai on the sidelines of a conference held by HSBC. It also plans to hold a similar tour in the United States soon to target major institutions investing in emerging markets.

The Capital Markets Authority was established pursuant to Law No. 7/2010, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010. Pursuant to the Law, the CMA shall regulate and supervise the securities activities, achieve transparency and fairness, observe listed companies’ execution of Corporate Governance regulations, and protect investors from unfair practices which violate the CMA's Law.
Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of mergers, acquisitions, and disclosure operations. The CMA also aims to provide awareness programs related to securities activities.
