Title: Capital Markets Authority Continues its Awareness Workshops Program
Kuwait, May 17, 2016 – For the third week in a row, the Capital Markets Authority continued its awareness workshops program on Tuesday May 17, 2016 for the first quarter of the current financial year through a workshop that discussed Anti-Money Laundering & Combating Financing of Terrorism.
Representatives from Office Supervision Department at the CMA started their topic for this week’s workshop by explaining Module Sixteen of the Executive Bylaws of Law No. (7) of 2010 on the Establishment of the Capital Markets Authority and Regulating Securities Activities and their amendments, then they tackled the annual report of the licensed person and the important issues related to it, and the methods of handling cash amounts, preparing studies related to risk evaluation, explaining the way of reporting suspicious transactions, and concluded the workshop by answering participants queries.
The current program includes six workshops, and it ends on June 5, 2016. The workshops are held weekly at Khaled Al-Kharafi Hall on Tuesdays at 12:30 p.m. according to the set dates. The program started two weeks ago with two workshops about “disclosure of interests” and “promoting collective investment schemes incorporated outside the State of Kuwait”. The rest of the program shall be completed throughout the three coming weeks, and shall cover the following topics:
Provisions of registering auditors in the concerned register at the CMA, violating trading conduct, and CMA portal.
The CMA reminds all persons concerned with securities activities and other related issues to attend such workshops as they are open for the public, and it welcomes all questions and suggestions on various issues related to its various activities.
Clarification to Editors
The Capital Markets Authority was established pursuant to Law No. 7/2010, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010, and amended by Law No. 108/2014. Pursuant to the Law, the Authority shall regulate and supervise the securities activities, achieve transparency and fairness, observe listed companies’ execution of Corporate Governance Regulations, and protect investors from unfair practices which violate the Authority's Law.
Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of mergers, acquisitions, and disclosure operations. The Authority also aims to provide awareness programs related to securities activities.
