Title: The Capital Markets Authority Concludes its Second Awareness Workshops Program of Year 2015
Kuwait, June 14, 2015 – The second awareness workshops program of year 2015, which was organized by the CMA, concluded its events last week. It lasted for eight weeks; one lecture in each week. All lectures took place in Khaled Al-Kharafi Hall at Kuwait Stock Exchange during which various matters relevant to securities activities were covered. They were as follows:
- Requirements of Acquisition Offer Document
- Procedures of the Nomination Mechanism for Positions and Registration of Registered Positions
- Material Information & Mechanism of Disclosure
- Unsound Practices of Trading "Exploitation of Insider Information"
- CMA Regulations Concerning the Procedures of Mandatory Acquisition Processes
- Investigation Procedures under CMA Law
- Requesting New License to practice Securities Activities
- CMA Regulations Concerning Regulating the Dealings in Securities of Board of Directors Members, Executive Staff Members, and Other Insiders in Shareholding Companies, and the Method of Disclosure
These workshops, which were open for the public, come in line with the CMA's endeavour to enhance awareness in its rules and regulations. The CMA also seeks to stay in contact with all parties concerned with securities activities.
It is worth mentioning that the CMA also launched an awareness campaign on general assemblies through its website and other media, in addition to publishing relevant announcements in newspapers, T.V and radio. The campaign aimed to highlight the importance of attending the general assemblies which would improve the company's performance. It would also keep the shareholders informed with the real financial situation of the company and its future approaches.
Clarification to Editors
The Capital Markets Authority was established pursuant to Law No. 7/2010, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010, and amended by Law No. 108/2014. Pursuant to the Law, the Authority shall regulate and supervise the securities activities, achieve transparency and fairness, observe listed companies execution of the Corporate Governance Principles, and protect investors from unfair practices which violate the Authority's Law. Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of merger, acquisition, and disclosure operations. The Authority also aims to provide awareness programmes related to securities activities.
