Title: The Capital Markets Authority Holds its 4th AwarenessWorkshop for the 2nd Quarter of 2015
Kuwait, 5th May 2015 - The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) has held its 4th awareness workshop on Tuesday 5/5/2015 in Khaled Al-Kharafi Hall at Kuwait Stock Exchange at 12:30 PM. The workshop was titled "Unsound Trading Practices - Exploitation of insider information". The speakers have provided through this workshop six elements of the discussed topic, which are as follows:
1. Definition of Insider Information.
2. Specifics of Insider Information.
3. Definition of Insider.
4. Exploitation of Insider Information.
5. Case examples of exploitation of Insider Information.
6. Criminalization of exploitation of Insider Information.
The workshop was intended to raise awareness among investors in Kuwait Stock Exchange and also the employees of companies listed in the Exchange on the importance the Insider Information and the unsound behaviours and practices related to it, especially in the case of exploiting and disclosing it to non- insiders according to Law No. 7 of 2010 regarding the Establishment of the Capital Markets Authority and Regulating the Securities' Activity, its Executive Bylaw, in addition to the decisions and the regulations issued by the CMA.
The workshop in this regard has also allocated time for Q&A by all the participants.
The workshop was given by the Mr. Suliman Al-Mousa - Director of the Markets Transactions and Follow-up Department, Mr. Khaled AL-Qadi – Acting Director of Trading Supervision Section, Mr. Ahmad Marafi - Director of Awareness Office, and Mr. Othman AL-Nughaimish - Representative of the Legal Affairs Sector.
Clarification to Editors:
The Capital Markets Authority was established pursuant to Law No. 7/2010, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010, and amended by Law No. 108/2014. Pursuant to the Law, the Authority shall regulate and supervise the securities activities, achieve transparency and fairness, oblige the listed companies to execute the Corporate Governance Principles, and protect the investors from the unfair practices which violate the Authority's Law.
Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of the merger, acquisition, and disclosure operations. The Authority also aims at providing awareness programmes related to securities activities.
