Kuwait, 15th December 2013 – Pursuant to the CMA's initiatives of holding purposive seminars related to its field of work in order to transfer knowledge, exchange experience, and develop its employees skills; the Authority has hosted HSBC bank representatives, who have a lot of experience in the field of international capital markets and related researches. Mr. David Bloom, HSBC Head of Foreign Exchange Strategy, presented a scientific lecture about the quantity forms used to observe currency exchange rates and investment's risks of foreign currency exchange rates markets, and Mr. Simon Williams, HSBC Chief Economist for the Middle East and North Africa presented a lecture about the challenges facing the economy of the Middle East and North African countries, and the impact of the world economy changes on the capital markets in the emerging countries which include the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. The seminar participants included the Authority's commissioners, the senior management, and the departments' heads.
At the end, the speakers emphasized on the importance of transforming the capital markets of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries into attracting markets for investors.
Clarification to Editors:
The Capital Markets Authority was established pursuant to Law No. 7/2010, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010, and amended by Law No. 108/2014. Pursuant to the Law, the Authority shall regulate and supervise the securities activities, achieve transparency and fairness, oblige the listed companies to execute the Corporate Governance Principles, and protect the investors from the unfair practices which violate the Authority's Law.
Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of the merger, acquisition, and disclosure operations. The Authority also aims at providing awareness programmes related to securities activities.
