Kuwait, 12 November 2013 – The Capital Markets Authority organized a workshop entitled "Requirements for Registering the External Sharia Audit Offices with the Capital Markets Authority" at the meeting hall on the third floor in Ahmed Tower. This workshop comes as part of a number of mutual meetings with the licensed persons in order to raise the legal awareness regarding different matters relevant to securities activities. Previously held workshops discussed different issues such as disclosure, acquisition, and various investment activities.
The workshop mainly discussed the requirements for registering the external Sharia audit offices with the Authority. The attenders included external Sharia audit offices which have already applied for registration with the Authority. The workshop was also attended by the Awareness Department Director and representatives of the Licenses and Registration Department and the Legal Studies Department at the Authority.
This workshop is part of many awareness activities that aim at achieving the Authority's main objectives of regulating securities activities in a fair, transparent, and competitive manner. It also aims at protecting traders in these activities, reducing the systematic risks, and guarantying the compliance with the enforced legislations. Such activities not only help in creating a more efficient and stable financial market, but also contribute effectively in establishing a sound investment environment.
Clarification to Editors:
The Capital Markets Authority was established pursuant to Law No. 7/2010, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010, and amended by Law No. 108/2014. Pursuant to the Law, the Authority shall regulate and supervise the securities activities, achieve transparency and fairness, oblige the listed companies to execute the Corporate Governance Principles, and protect the investors from the unfair practices which violate the Authority's Law.
Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of the merger, acquisition, and disclosure operations. The Authority also aims at providing awareness programmes related to securities activities.
