Kuwait, 4th June 2013 – "The Controls of Investing in Investment Funds" was the title of a workshop which was held lately by the CMA. It lasted for three consecutive days starting from 2/6 to 4/6 in Khaled Al-Kharafi Hall at the Kuwait Stock Exchange. Different aspects related to the controls of investing in funds were discussed. On the first day, Speakers discussed the controls of investing in equity funds and fund of funds. The second day covered the topic of investing in the money market funds and debt instruments funds, and the third day tackled the topic of investing in real estate investment funds and private equity funds.
The CMA was keen to discuss the investment funds as they are considered an important type of investment, in addition to explaining the controls of investing in funds according to the CMA regulations in this regard.
The targeted audiences of these workshops were the investment funds managers who are working for the licensed persons, and those who are concerned with investing in funds. The CMA was represented by the Awareness Department Director, the Investment Funds Department Director, and representatives from the Investment Funds and legal Affairs Departments.
These workshops are part of many awareness activities organized by the CMA, such activities include issuing awareness publications and announcements, adding an awareness section to the CMA's website, carrying out an awareness campaign in order to amend any flaws or gaps in the investors' knowledge regarding the securities activities, and achieving the sought goals of having an efficient and stable market which is marked with transparency and fairness.
The CMA hopes that this 3-day workshop, along with the discussions and exchange of views it included has shed some light on different aspects related to the legislations and controls which regulate such kind of investments.

The Capital Markets Authority was established pursuant to Law No. 7/2010, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010, and amended by Law No. 108/2014. Pursuant to the Law, the Authority shall regulate and supervise the securities activities, achieve transparency and fairness, oblige the listed companies to execute the Corporate Governance Principles, and protect the investors from the unfair practices which violate the Authority's Law.
Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of the merger, acquisition, and disclosure operations. The Authority also aims at providing awareness programmes related to securities activities.
