The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) will hold its fourth annual conference " Capital Market Reforms Through Regional Initiatives" at Badriah ballroom, located at the Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Spa, at 9:00 am on Wednesday January 23, 2019.
The CMA’s approach to holding such annual events started in 2016. An annual conference is held in the first quarter of each year. This presents an opportunity for discussing the most important issues related to the capital markets and securities activities, and the functions of the regulatory bodies along with reviewing the recent updates in the field through the study of leading global cases in the fields mentioned above, which are presented by a selection of international and regional experts and specialists.
It is worth noting that the fourth annual conference of the CMA follows an exceptional event, namely, hosting Kuwait for the first time the 42nd annual meeting of the Africa / Middle-East Regional Committee (AMERC), one of the main committees of the International Organization of Securities Commissions (IOSCO). This reflects the CMA’s keenness to becoming an active member of that international organization, whether at the level of its Board of Directors or through the membership of its committees, with a view to exchanging experiences with Member States and enhancing the State of Kuwait's presence in various relevant international forums.
The main subject of the conference is "Capital Market Reforms Through Regional Initiatives" is expected to be addressed through several aspects. The first focuses on discussing the most important incentives and initiatives for listing across the Africa and Middle East region, the expected benefits and impact on the financial markets in particular, and on the economic reality in general. The second is the financing of small and medium enterprises (SME) and its mechanisms and tools to have the issue of regional interaction on the risks arising from financial technology (FinTech) to be the subject of the third and last aspect of the conference.
Finally, it should be noted that the Capital Markets Authority, which has already announced this conference and set the registration mechanism for participation in its activities through a special section on its website, invites the general public of interested and concerned persons in securities activities to attend, in the hope of active participation that contributes to the success of the event.

The Capital Markets Authority was established pursuant to Law No. 7/2010, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010, and amended by Law No. 108/2014. Pursuant to the Law, the Authority shall regulate and supervise the securities activities, achieve transparency and fairness, observe listed companies’ execution of Corporate Governance Regulations, and protect investors from unfair practices which violate the Authority's Law.
Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of mergers, acquisitions, and disclosure operations. The Authority also aims to provide awareness programs related to securities activities.
