CMA LAW: Press Release: The Capital Markets Authority Suspends Trading on March 1, 2026

Kuwait, 28 February 2026 – Within the framework of its supervisory and regulatory role, the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) issued in its meeting no. (8) held on February 28, 2026, its Resolution No. (23) of 2026 Regarding the Suspension of Trading in Boursa Kuwait. This Resolution stipulates that trading in Boursa Kuwait Securities Exchange shall be suspended on March 1, 2026, and it comes in light of the current circumstances witnessed by the country and to ensure taking the necessary precautionary measures for the integrity and stability of the capital market system, and to avoid the systemic risks related to crises and disturbance.
This Resolution is based on the CMA’s powers in accordance with Item (1) of Article (44) of Law No. 7 of 2010, which stipulates:
“Disaster, crises and disturbance, which may result in a serious impact in the market and in the event where several Traders give misleading intimations or indications, the Authority shall then have the widest powers to issue instructions that aim to regain equitability, transparency and efficiency of the market. The Authority may take any of the following precautions:
1 - Suspend trading at the Securities market or trading of any listed Security for a limited period.

The CMA confirms that it will continue following up the developments closely and monitoring the situation constantly in order to take the necessary measures according to the latest developments.

The Capital Markets Authority (CMA) of Kuwait was established pursuant to Law No. 7 of 2010 Regarding the Establishment of the Capital Markets Authority and Regulating Securities Activities, and its amendments, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010. Under this Law, the CMA regulates and supervises securities activities, ensures transparency, fairness, efficiency, and observes listed companies’ implementation of Corporate Governance regulations. The CMA also protects investors from unfair practices and violations of the CMA's Law.
