Title: Press Release: The Capital Markets Authority Holds an Open Meeting with the Financial Brokerage Firms
Kuwait, February 16, 2023 - The Capital Markets Authority (CMA), represented by Prof. Ahmad Al-Melhem – Chairman of the CMA Board of Commissioners, Mr. Othman Al-Issa - Vice Chairman of the CMA Board of Commissioners, and Heads of Markets, Supervision, and Legal Affairs Sectors, held an open meeting with the representatives of the financial brokerage firms that are registered with Boursa Kuwait Securities Exchange on Thursday February 16, 2023 at the CMA headquarter.
The CMA believes in the importance of holding such meetings, opinion polls, and exchange of point of views with the entities participating in the capital market and stakeholders as part of CMA’s endeavor and keenness of the active participation of all relevant entities in the Market Development (MD) project that is adopted by the CMA. This also serves the upgrades of the State of Kuwait during the past years and enhances the future aspirations and goals towards becoming an advanced emerging market as part of the steps and plans set by the CMA in cooperation and coordination with the strategic partners: Central Bank of Kuwait, Boursa Kuwait Securities Exchange, Kuwait Clearing Company, and brokerage firms registered with the Exchange.
In conclusion, the Chairman of CMA Board of Commissioners – Managing Director, on his own behalf and on behalf of the Commissioners, thanked the representatives of the financial brokerage firms for accepting the invitation, and for the expressed opinions and ideas, confirming CMA’s approach of the open-door policy for all offers and proposals that may serve and diversify the national economy in order to achieve the purpose of its establishment through developing the capital markets and diversifying and developing the investment tools in a fair, competitive, and transparent environment. In addition, such meetings are considered a key pillar for determining CMA’s strategic objectives and addressing any obstacles facing the entities participating in the capital markets in order to reach the targeted integration between all parties to achieve the purpose of the political leadership vision to turn Kuwait into a leading financial and economic center.

The Capital Markets Authority was established pursuant to Law No. 7/2010, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010. Pursuant to the Law, CMA shall regulate and supervise the securities activities, achieve transparency and fairness, observe listed companies’ execution of Corporate Governance regulations, and protect investors from unfair practices which violate CMA's Law.
Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of mergers, acquisitions, and disclosure operations. CMA also aims to provide awareness programs related to securities activities.
