Title: Press Release: The CMA Obtains 100% for its Commitment with the Data Classification Policy Pursuant to the Standards of CITRA
Kuwait, October 17, 2022 – Prof. Ahmad Al-Melhem - Chairman of the Capital Markets Authority’s (CMA) Board of Commissioners, Managing Director – stated that within the framework of the Communication and Information Technology Regulatory Authority’s (CITRA) examination of the government entities’ commitment to Resolution No. 9 of 2021 Regarding Data Classification Policy, the CMA has obtained a commitment percentage of 100% , after verifying its full commitment to the data classification policy.
A specialized team from CITRA has visited the CMA on October 10, 2022 and viewed the information asset classification policy approved by the CMA and the procedures of their classification in accordance with Resolution No. 9 of 2021 issued by CITRA.
It was confirmed that the CMA maintains all its data, regardless of its confidentiality levels inside the State of Kuwait, in CMA data centers in accordance with the examination report conducted by CITRA’s team. The report confirmed CMA’s commitment to the data classification according to correct confidentiality levels.
Moreover, Prof. Al-Melhem mentioned that the CMA has established a specialized unit for information security to carry on the operations of information asset classification based on the concerned policies and procedures. It has also formed a steering committee to supervise the security procedures and ensure their implementation in accordance with the approved policies.
It is worth noting that the CMA took the initiative of information asset classification since 2014, and it regularly reviews the security provisions necessary to maintain its information assets in accordance with the best practices.

The Capital Markets Authority was established pursuant to Law No. 7/2010, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010. Pursuant to the Law, the CMA shall regulate and supervise the securities activities, achieve transparency and fairness, observe listed companies’ execution of Corporate Governance regulations, and protect investors from unfair practices which violate the CMA's Law.
Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of mergers, acquisitions, and disclosure operations. The CMA also aims to provide awareness programs related to securities activities.
