Title: Press Release: The Capital Markets Authority Receives the Lord Mayor of London
Kuwait, October 6, 2022 - Prof. Ahmad Al-Melhem - Chairman of CMA Board of Commissioners and the Managing Director- received the Lord Mayor of London, Mr. Vincent Keaveny, and a delegation from the British Embassy on Wednesday October 6, 2022 at CMA’s headquarter.
This visit is part of a tour to several financial institutions in Kuwait as well as senior economic officials. It is an extension of the relationships between the two countries in several fields and an opportunity to discuss several future projects related to sustainable investment between the two countries in addition to the cooperation fields between the CMA and Mr. Vincent Keaveny’s office through developing the abilities of the working cadres and enhancing cooperation between the CMA and the FCA. The meeting reviewed UK’s experience in Fintech and inventions, and discussed signing a Memorandum of Understanding with FCA. Moreover, within the framework of the permanent pursuit to enhance and develop the economic and investment relationships between the two countries, the meeting discussed the possibility of sending the trainees of CMA’s Program for Training and Qualifying the Recent Graduates to one of the prestigious universities, as London is considered one of the outstanding financial centers in the world, which will be an additional option for the CMA along with Harvard University.

The Capital Markets Authority was established pursuant to Law No. 7/2010, approved by the Kuwaiti Parliament in February 2010. Pursuant to the Law, the CMA shall regulate and supervise the securities activities, achieve transparency and fairness, observe listed companies’ execution of Corporate Governance regulations, and protect investors from unfair practices which violate the CMA's Law.
Furthermore, the Law's provisions stipulate the supervision of mergers, acquisitions, and disclosure operations. The CMA also aims to provide awareness programs related to securities activities.
