Kuwait - October 2, 2022, For the second year in a row, the Capital Markets Authority (CMA) represents the State of Kuwait, in the activities of the World Investor Week, which will be held during (October 3-9, 2022). The CMA, in cooperation with the Central Bank of Kuwait, represented Kuwait in this event last year, which was held on (October 4-11) and dealt with four main topics related to the fundamentals of investment in general, and issues of sustainable financing and securities activities in particular.
The CMA’s participation in this event falls within the framework of its keenness to actively participate in the various events and activities of the International Organization of Securities Commissions “IOSCO” and its various committees, which enables it to follow up on the latest developments related to its tasks, and to keep pace with international standards related to securities activities.
This year's World Investor Week campaign is expected to highlight the importance of raising awareness of four main topics:
- "Investor Resilience": which provides him with the elements to weathers negative financial shocks, recognize investment risks, and the requirement for financial planning for a stable financial life.
- “Sustainable Finance”: including the application of environmental, social, and governance (ESG) investing, and what the investor must realize in terms of this finance, starting with reviewing his disclosure data with the company targeted for investment, and considering whether an investment's stated approach to sustainable finance matches the investor's investment goals.
- " Frauds and Scams Methods": and the responsibilities of the smart investor to prevent them, such as verifying that the investment professional is licensed, researching investment opportunities independently and evaluating them on their own terms, avoiding calls for quick profit and guaranteed wealth, and protecting personal data.
- "Crypto Assets": the need to understand the risks associated with them, to recognize the warning signs of investment fraud, and to avoid the rush to invest based solely on a celebrity endorsement.
This year, the CMA is participating on two levels: the first focuses on the awareness campaign implemented by the CMA on the occasion of this participation. It is mainly dedicated to one of the previous major issues, specifically the topic of “sustainable finance” as the driving force for sustainable development, without overlooking the other issues.
The awareness campaign, which starts today, is expected to include several activities and events, such as broadcasting intensive awareness messages through its accounts on social media, issuing an electronic awareness publication, in addition to broadcasting an awareness infographic dedicated to the same topic. As for the second aspect of this participation, it is expected to focus on broadcasting IOSCO’s awareness messages on the aforementioned topics. The official account of the joint Gulf investment awareness program "Mulem" will re-publish the awareness publications of CMA’s participation in this event, in addition to broadcasting the messages of the International Organization "IOSCO" related to this event.
Finally, it should be noted that “World Investor Week” is an annual international awareness initiative that was launched by “IOSCO” in 2017, with the aim of raising the levels of financial literacy, enhancing investor knowledge and protecting them at the local and global levels. More than 100 member countries participate in its annual activities, including the State of Kuwait represented by the CMA, which officially became a member in May 2017.
